The iconic N64 title, Banjo-Tooie, is set to join the Nintendo Switch Online library. This beloved sequel to Banjo-Kazooie will be accessible to Expansion Pack subscribers starting October 25, 2024.
Debuting in 2000, Banjo-Tooie brings back familiar faces as players dive into another thrilling quest to thwart Grunty’s malicious plans. While the core gameplay remains intact, featuring the collection of Jiggies and musical notes, the sequel introduces various enhancements. Notably, players can explore a more expansive world, unleash new abilities—including a unique first-person egg-shooting mechanism—and engage in multiplayer mini-games. Additionally, certain gameplay segments allow Kazooie to be played independently.
The version of Banjo-Tooie for Nintendo Switch Online will include a comprehensive widescreen mode. However, it’s unlikely that the release will incorporate the Stop ‘n’ Swop feature, which was reintroduced in the game’s Xbox Live Arcade adaptation. This functionality was originally planned for the N64 version but was ultimately removed due to technical constraints. By aiming for a faithful representation of the original release, it seems probable that this feature will be excluded.
Though Rare is currently under Microsoft’s ownership, Banjo-Tooie marks the sixth title from the developer to be featured on Nintendo Switch Online. Other classics like Banjo-Kazooie, Goldeneye, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, and Perfect Dark are also available on the platform. Furthermore, Banjo and Kazooie have reappeared as DLC characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate on the Switch.
Mark your calendars: Banjo-Tooie will launch on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on October 25, 2024.
