Overwatch 2 has embraced numerous collaborations, including an exciting collection of My Hero Academia skins launched on October 17, 2024. In a recent interview with Famitsu, Dion Rogers, the Art Director for Overwatch 2, discussed the origins of this collaboration and the criteria used for selecting which characters received particular skins. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
According to Dion Rogers, the choices for the My Hero Academia skins were driven by a mix of character traits and thematic relevance.
The creative team compiles a list of series that resonate with the “theme”of Overwatch 2, including nostalgic favorites and new interests! My Hero Academia stands out among them, as it shares the same uplifting spirit of heroism that we admire. I believe this collaboration showcases excellent synergy.

When determining which characters should receive special skins, the team focused on their personalities and backgrounds. Rogers pointed out that Tracer and Deku exhibit similar traits, particularly in how they both look up to inspirational figures at the outset of their respective journeys.
Reinhardt’s transformation into an All Might skin emerged as a fitting choice, attributed to his vibrant persona and powerful voice. Nevertheless, multiple modifications were made to his facial features to truly reflect the character. Initially, a “withered” version of All Might was also on the table, but ultimately proved too complex to execute and was put aside.
Players can enjoy Overwatch 2 at no cost on platforms including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC. The My Hero Academia-themed skins will be available until October 30, 2024.
