Following its initial release in 2011, the Sonic franchise has seen changes in its voice acting lineup (intended pun). The creation of Sonic x Shadow Generations led to the introduction of new dialogues, prompting many actors to be replaced to align with their contemporary interpretations.

Colleen O’Shaughnessey has taken over the role of Tails from Kate Higgins. She initially voiced Tails in Sonic Boom in 2014 and continues to be the character’s primary voice actress, including in the live-action adaptations. O’Shaughnessey also voiced Charmy Bee in the original Sonic Generations, a role she reprises in Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Knuckles is now voiced by Dave B Mitchell, replacing Travis Willingham. Mitchell has provided the voice for Knuckles since Team Sonic Racing in 2019 and is also known for his performances as Dyne in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Pulcinella in Genshin Impact, and Sektor in Mortal Kombat 1.

Bryce Papenbrook now voices Silver, stepping in for Quinton Flynn. Similar to Knuckles, Silver was also recast during Team Sonic Racing, marking Papenbrook’s debut representation of Silver in a mainline Sonic game. He is notably recognized as Eren Yeager in Attack on Titan and Kirito in Sword Art Online.

Additionally, Erica Lindbeck assumes the roles of both Blaze the Cat and Omochao, who were both recast in — you guessed it — Team Sonic Racing. Lindbeck boasts an impressive resume, including popular characters like Futaba Sakura in Persona 5, Loona in Helluva Boss, Black Cat in Spider-Man 2, and Barbie from various modern Barbie productions.

Shadow Generations introduces a roster of characters who haven’t been featured in a Sonic game for over a decade, and in some cases, even longer. While they didn’t appear in the original Sonic Generations, most have new voices brought in for the latest installment.

Before Sonic x Shadow Generations came out, Mephiles the Dark had only been voiced once in the notorious Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) by Dan Green. In SxSG, Mephiles is voiced by Robbie Daymond, recognized for his roles as Spider-Man in various animated Marvel series, Goro Akechi in Persona 5, and Megumi Fushiguro in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Black Doom also had a single voiced appearance in Shadow the Hedgehog, originally voiced by Sean Schemmel (known for voicing Goku). In Sonic x Shadow Generations, Benjamin Diskin takes on the role of Black Doom. Previously, Diskin voiced Q-N-C in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric but is perhaps best remembered as Joseph Joestar in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Numbuh 1 in Codename: Kids Next Door.

Maria, who was voiced by Moriah Angeline in Sonic Adventure 2 and Rebecca Honig in Shadow the Hedgehog, is now brought to life in Shadow x Sonic Generations by Stephanie Sheh, the renowned voice behind Hinata Hyuga in Naruto and Orihime Inoue in Bleach.

Lastly, Mike Pollock remains the voice of Dr. Eggman and continues to portray Professor Gerald Robotnik since taking over from Marc Biagi starting from Sonic X.

Sonic x Shadow Generations is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
