Different Composers for Each FFXIV Dawntrail Area Soundtrack

In a recent discussion with Famitsu, the sound team for FFXIV unveiled insights regarding the soundtrack for the Dawntrail expansion, which features a unique composer for each distinct area of the game. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

Masayoshi Soken, the Sound Director and Composer of FFXIV, has crafted the score for The Living Memory Zone. Meanwhile, Takafumi Imamura took charge of the music for Shaaloani, Daiki Ishikawa was responsible for the music for Yak T’el Woodlands, and Saya Yasaki composed the soundtracks for both Urqopacha and Kozama’uka.

When questioned about the decision to include a variety of composers for the Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail soundtrack, Soken remarked that this approach allowed for a richer expression of the diverse cultural themes present across the continent.

Soken further explained that the musical journey initiated with A Realm Reborn has reached its conclusion with Endwalker. He believed that inviting emerging composers to lead the score for Dawntrail would invigorate the expansion with fresh perspectives.

The sound team typically begins composing music for an expansion approximately a year ahead of its launch. However, Soken noted that serious work on the FFXIV Dawntrail soundtrack only commenced at the beginning of 2024. Additionally, the newly enhanced graphics for FFXIV posed challenges for the composers, who were not able to access the game’s backgrounds and environments while developing the Dawntrail score.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC platforms.
