Square Enix has announced an upcoming lecture by Akira Iwasawa, the Facial Director for both FFVII Remake and the anticipated FFVII Rebirth. This session will concentrate on the intricacies of character facial animations in relation to the newest installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. The event is scheduled for November 22, 2024, from 8 PM to 9 PM JST, in conjunction with the CGWORLD 2024 Creative Conference.
During the lecture, key topics covering the facial animation process will be discussed, including the setup of facial rigs, the flow of creating cutscenes—which will encompass techniques like facial capture photography and multilingual capabilities—and planning events with a focus on automated lip-syncing and character animations for straightforward scenarios.
Akira Iwasawa has been a valuable member of Square Enix since 2000, spearheading the facial animation efforts for the FFVII Remake trilogy. His extensive portfolio includes contributions to the Kingdom Hearts franchise, the FFVII Advent Children film, and various other titles such as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, The 3rd Birthday, Final Fantasy Type-0, Lightning Returns: FFXIII, Drakengard 3, and Final Fantasy XV. Previously, Iwasawa shared insights in a seminar on character setup for FFXV, with a strong focus on facial details and components.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be exclusively available on PlayStation 5. Square Enix has confirmed that the game will support enhancements for the PS5 Pro, set to debut on November 7, 2024.
