>NicoNico App Relaunches on Nintendo Switch

On October 17, 2024, Dwango confirmed the revival of the NicoNico app for the Nintendo Switch. This follows a significant cyberattack that disrupted the service on June 8, 2024, leading to a gradual restoration of NicoNico videos and related features.

To install the NicoNico app on Nintendo Switch, users must access the Japanese Nintendo eShop and possess a Japanese Nintendo account. Existing users who had the app installed before the cyber incident will require an update to version 4.51 to regain access to its functionalities.

Additionally, as part of heightened security protocols, Dwango announced a mandatory reset of passwords for the NicoNico app. Users who haven’t logged in since the service was reinstated on August 5, 2024, must create a new password to continue using their accounts.

It’s worth noting that while a new version of the NicoNico service returned in August 2024, Dwango also indicated that some features, like the NicoNi Community function, would be discontinued due to data loss from the cyberattack.

The services of the NicoNico app on Nintendo Switch resumed on October 17, 2024.
