Suika Game Picture Book Showcases a Cherry Theme

Kadokawa has unveiled an enchanting picture book inspired by the wildly popular Suika Game, where fruits fuse together to ultimately create a watermelon—a phenomenon that captivated audiences in 2023. This delightful book features 26 pages and is priced at 1100 JPY (approximately $7.20) inclusive of taxes.

The cover showcases an adorable cherry, a playful watermelon, and a somewhat disgruntled strawberry, all characters from the beloved game. The storyline centers around a wandering Cherry who seeks help from companions like Strawberry and Grape on its quest to return home. Targeting infants aged 0 to 2 years, this book is designed specifically for the youngest audience. Moreover, it includes enjoyable activities for parents to share with their little ones, although Kadokawa has yet to detail what these activities entail. Potential features could include simple quizzes aimed at enhancing cognitive skills or pages with varying textures for tactile exploration.

The book is authored by Noboru Matsuyama, who is known for creating 4koma manga featuring video games such as Kirby. Previously, she has also authored puzzle books related to Minecraft for Kadokawa.

The Suika Game, developed by Aladdin X, emerged as a major hit in 2023, garnering widespread attention from streamers and YouTubers alike. By June 2024, it was revealed that the game had reached over 10 million downloads globally across its three official platforms. In the game, players are tasked with dropping fruits into a container, where matching pieces fuse into new varieties. Due to the unique shapes of the fruits coupled with the physics engine, players often face unexpected results, challenging their strategies and adding to the thrill.

The Suika Game is available on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, with the accompanying picture book currently being sold in Japan.
