Siliconera’s Choice: The Best Silent Hill Game of All Time
Silent Hill 3 holds a special place in my heart, mainly due to the shared experience it brought me and my college friends. Playing through that installment together allowed us to truly immerse ourselves in the story and share the thrills as a group. — Jenni
I’ll admit that I’m a somewhat casual fan of Silent Hill. The only entry I’ve completely played is Silent Hill 2, and although I dabbled in Silent Hill: Origins, the details of that experience are hazy at best. To be truthful, I don’t view the series as particularly terrifying. While the combat mechanics are more action-oriented, I find the rich lore captivating. Silent Hill 2’s self-contained story and its exploration of the characters’ psychological struggles resonate with me on a narrative level. Although it can be challenging as a game, many believe that Silent Hill 2 stands as one of the paramount examples of video games being a form of art. — Stephanie
While Silent Hill 2 and 3 are definitely contenders for the best in the franchise, I have a soft spot for Silent Hill: Origins. As someone who tends to shy away from horror, this was the first title that I managed to finish. At the time, its graphics were quite impressive for a handheld device, and its gameplay felt comparable to that of home console games. Playing on a portable device helped ease my fear, allowing me to sneak off to the school library and enjoy it comfortably. Additionally, the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka is simply outstanding. It was the catalyst for my affection for this series, which is rare in horror gaming. — Cody
Silent Hill 2 is currently available on PS5 and PC.
