Horror games hold a unique place in gaming culture, captivating players with their chilling atmospheres and unforgettable narratives. Iconic franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill continue to evolve, evidenced by the latest iteration of Silent Hill 2, which confirms the demand for horror remakes is still alive and well. Today, we explore classic horror games that are ripe for remakes or sequels.
Siliconera’s Voice: Horror Titles Deserving a Remake or Sequel
While I hesitate to regard Siren: Blood Curse as a straightforward remake of the original title, given its significant departures in numerous areas, it serves more as a reimagining. A faithful remake of the original Siren would certainly be welcome; however, I advocate experiencing the original, imperfect version first. Its quirks and frustrating moments contribute to its unique charm. — Stephanie (Part 1)
In contrast, Siren 2 seemed aimed at enhancing the gaming experience with some beneficial upgrades. Thus, a dedicated remake of that title could be quite appealing. Additionally, a Siren 3 that maintains the gameplay and narrative style of its predecessors would also be fantastic. However, it could pose a challenge since the original creative team has moved on to work at Bokeh Game Studio, and it’s unclear who currently holds the rights to the franchise. — Stephanie (Part 2)
I can’t help but agree with Stephanie; Siren deserves a revival. Its storytelling is unforgettable, and its gameplay is wonderfully unique. — Jenni
I’m quite timid when it comes to horror, so I typically gravitate towards visual novels. While these are not horror games per se, I find myself yearning for new installments in the Zero Escape and Danganronpa series. They both incorporate mild horror elements, particularly in 999, where the “knocking” segment genuinely startled me on my first playthrough. Both series have deepened my appreciation for visual novels, and I yearn for more content from each. — Cody
