Samsung SDI and Stellantis collaborate to establish a joint battery factory with the U.S. company ‘Morris Sheet Metal’

According to the U.S. Alpine 4 Holdings on the 8th (local time), its subsidiary MSM is known to be participating in the construction of a battery joint venture (JV) being built by Samsung SDI and Stellantis in Indiana, U.S. MSM will support the installation of production equipment and heating, cooling and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, and the order amount is $5.1 million (approximately 7 billion won).

MSM, founded in 1992, is a company headquartered in Indiana. In particular, we have experience participating in the construction of small-scale solid-state battery production facilities for Quality Circular Assembly and Elecjet, subsidiaries of Alpha4 Holdings.

Samsung SDI and Stellantis plan to contribute to revitalizing the local economy and accelerate factory construction by involving local companies.

The two companies signed a contract to establish a joint venture in May last year. We will invest $2.5 billion (approximately 3.33 trillion won) in Kokomo, Indiana to build an electric vehicle battery cell and module factory with an annual capacity of 23GWh.

It is scheduled to begin operation in the first quarter of 2025 and expand its capacity to 33GWh in the future, and the investment cost will increase to approximately $3.3 billion (approximately 4.4 trillion won).

The product produced at the joint factory is the ‘PRiMX battery’, which uses Samsung SDI’s latest technology, and is delivered to Stellantis’ North American assembly plant.

Stellantis plans to increase the proportion of electric vehicle sales among passenger cars and large trucks in the United States to 50% by 2030.
