On the 11th, a press preview of ‘1947 Boston’ (directed by Kang Je-gyu) was held at the Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. On this day, director Kang Je-gyu, Ha Jung-woo, Im Si-wan, and Kim Sang-ho attended and talked.

‘1947 Boston’ is a film depicting the challenges and thrilling journey of marathon runners to compete in international competitions wearing the Taegeuk symbol for the first time after liberation in 1947. Director Kang Je-gyu, who had box office success with ‘Shiri’ and ‘Taegukgi’, is releasing a new film 8 years after ‘Jangsu Merchant’.

Ha Jung-woo plays the role of coach Son Ki-jeong, a gold medalist at the 1936 Berlin Olympics and the man who led Boston’s miracle in 1947.

On this day, Ha Jung-woo said about his feelings after watching the movie, “The first thought I had while watching the movie was when I saw actor Im Si-wan on the same screen, I thought, ‘I’m older.’”He added, “There was nothing else special,”and made people laugh.

He also said, “However, I only thought of Mr. Son Ki-jeong’s thoughts when he led this team on the journey to the Boston Marathon, and as a senior, he took responsibility for not being able to wear the Taegeukgi at the Berlin Olympics and said, ‘I should participate with the Taegeukgi at least this time.’ “I started filming,” he confessed.

Ha Jung-woo also reflected on the process of playing Son Ki-jeong. He confessed, “While discussing and talking with the director, we talked a lot about what kind of person (Director Son Ki-jeong) is, and the director also told us a lot.”

He also said, “I think I thought about what the director must have been thinking and what his emotions were like in each take. As those thoughts accumulated one by one, I didn’t easily lose my footing when the Berlin Olympics podium scene appeared in the prologue scene. It was an actual experience.””I felt like my heart was heavy, and I also felt a solemnity that I had not felt while filming,” he confessed.

Im Si-wan played the role of Seo Yun-bok, an indomitable marathoner who dreams of becoming the next Son Ki-jeong and a national representative for the 1947 Boston Marathon.

On this day, Im Si-wan opened up about his feelings about playing a real person, saying, “I thought that the fact that there was a real person was a task that should not be a problem to that person.”He continued, “I thought I should approach this work with a sense of responsibility,” and added, “Son Yun-bok was the first player to wear the Taegeuk symbol and go to an international competition, and although I am playing a certain character in this work, I also wore the Taegeuk mark and played the national anthem.” “I worked with the mindset that I had to work with the determination to represent the company,” he confessed.

Im Si-wan also explained, “Because it was a running role, I had to look professional, so I received professional training a month before starting the project. I continued to learn and receive training from the coach in between filming until the end.”

He also revealed the time he spent trying to perfect Son Yun-bok’s appearance. He said, “I prepared externally to take on the role of Son Yun-bok,”and “The work I spent the most time on was diet and exercise.”He continued, “I always ate chicken breast and salad as a diet from the time I started filming until the end, and I also exercised every day. “I should have done it. I couldn’t lose my solid muscles, so I tried to maintain a sense of expansion by exercising in between cuts,” he explained.

Im Si-wan also confessed, “I measured my body fat on InBody and it came out to be 6%. It wasn’t my goal, but as I was trying to resemble Seo Yun-bok, I saw the figure of 6% for the first time in my life and I think it was amazing.”

One of the special points to watch in the movie is the ‘priest chemistry’ between Ha Jung-woo and Im Si-wan. Regarding his chemistry with Siwan, Ha Jung-woo recalled the time of filming, saying, “Siwan worked so hard and felt like a real athlete.”He then confessed, “Because I watched from the side all the time I spent preparing to play the role of Son Yun-bok, my emotions naturally rose while filming the competition scenes,”and “I sincerely wanted to support him.”

He also praised, “The competition scene was filmed near Melbourne, Australia, and it happened to be filmed in the second half of our movie, so we completed the scene with full of emotion. I saw the finished version, and I think Seo Yun-bok will like it because he did it so well and expressed it.”

In response, Siwan said, “This is my first time working with Jungwoo hyung. I don’t know how people will listen to me while working together, but I felt like I met a dependable hyung.”

He continued, “I relied on him a lot while filming,”and “I actually played the role as a coach, director, and mentor, but more than that, he was like a dependable older brother.”He then recalled, “He knows more about the world and this movie in many ways than I do,” and “I remember filming while anticipating what kind of unexpected laugh point would come out at every moment because it was fun to hear him talk.”

Im Si-wan also said, “When I reached the finish line, the feeling that amplified me at that time was a thought that I always kept repeating to myself whenever I was working on any work or piece, trying not to waste every moment. It was the thought that ‘this moment will never come back.’ “I told myself that I would have to work as hard as I could because once this moment passed, it would never come back,” he confessed.

Director Kang Je-gyu also revealed the reason for casting Im Si-wan and praised him for his high synchronization rate. He mentioned the priority in casting, saying, “In order for the audience to assimilate into a character, having a high match rate determines how immersive they can be,”and “I thought they had to look similar in many ways externally.”He continued, “(Son Yun-bok) was small, but had an advantageous physique as a marathoner,”and “He was a naturally muscular marathoner, so he worked hard to build such a body.”Im Si-wan’s efforts during preparation was highly regarded.

Regarding what he wants to convey through the film, he said, “There are many precious stories contained in history,”and “Through their lives, it will be a time to check, ‘Are we really living well and are we on the right path?’”He continued, “There is a lot to be gained through history,”and “You may be indifferent or uninterested, but I hope that I can help you recognize that looking back at the past gives you strength, courage, and help in living your life.”I hoped.

Meanwhile, ‘1947 Boston’ will be released on the 27th.
