On the afternoon of the 11th, a press screening of the movie ‘1947 Boston’ was held at the Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Jayang-dong, Seoul.

‘1947 Boston’ is a film that tells the story of the challenges and thrilling journey of marathon runners to participate in international competitions wearing the Taegeuk symbol for the first time after liberation in 1947.

Bae Seong-woo plays the role of marathon runner Nam Seung-ryong, a real person, and filming was completed in January 2020. However, in November 2021, he was caught driving after drinking with an acquaintance in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

At the time of arrest, the blood alcohol content was above 0.08%, which is the level for license cancellation. Accordingly, Bae Seong-woo was sentenced to a summary order of 7 million won in fines by the Seoul Central District Court on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.

Due to being caught drunk driving, Bae Seong-woo was forced to withdraw from the SBS drama ‘Fly, Gaecheon-yong’ and went into self-reflection. ‘1947 Boston’ was Bae Seong-woo’s first work after self-reflection, and the public’s eyes and ears were focused on it.

In the unveiled film, Bae Seong-woo played a significant role as the bronze medalist at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the partner of Son Ki-jeong, and the pacemaker of Seo Yun-bok.

‘1947 Boston’ promoted Ha Jung-woo and Im Si-wan’s priest chemistry and erased all traces of Bae Seong-woo from posters, still cuts, and trailers, but there were many scenes in the work where the three actors, Son Ki-jeong, Seo Yun-bok, and Nam Seung-ryong, worked together. Since the work itself deals with the stories of three real people, it seems that it would not have been easy to write it down.

Meanwhile, director Kang Je-gyu said about the so-called ‘Bae Seong-woo risk’, “It is true that it was very burdensome and difficult for me to know what to do while doing post-production work. I also heard a lot of opinions from people around me.”He added, “He incorporated the lives of real people into the movie. He revealed his editing direction by saying, “It was not polite to others.”
