BAFTA Film Award nominees revealed, ‘Oppenheimer’ Nominees in 13 categories
(MHN Sports Intern Reporter Kim Tae-hoon) ’77th BAFTA Film Awards’ The candidate has been revealed.
Candidates for each category of the BAFTA Film Awards, hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), were revealed on the 18th.
Unlike the American Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards held on the 8th and 15th, respectively, it is organized by a British association and held in the UK, so it has a somewhat different aspect. The big trends are similar, but if you dig into the details, you can find the differences.
Director Christopher Nolan’s film ‘Oppenheimer’ was nominated in 13 categories. As ‘Oppenheimer’ was a major candidate at major awards in North America, the result was somewhat expected.
Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice ‘Oppenheimer’ Director Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie’, which had received as many nominations as possible, received only 5 nominations. It is presumed that the number was lower than expected because the main awards did not make much of a distinction between genres.
Following ‘Oppenheimer’, the work that received the second most nominations was ‘Poor Things’ starring Emma Stone, with a total of 11 nominations.
‘Poor Things’ is director Yorgos Lanthimos’ 8th work, and won the Golden Lion Award at the 80th Venice International Film Festival. Emma Stone, who plays Bella Baxter, is expected to be the favorite to win the BAFTA Film Awards, as she won Best Actress awards at the Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards.
Director Martin Scorsese’s ‘Flower Killing Moon’ and Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Zone of Interest’ received a total of 9 nominations. ‘Flower Killing Moon’ is a film starring Martin Scorsese’s Persona actors Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, and despite the fact that there was little direct promotional activity by the actors due to the Screen Actors Guild strike at the time of its release, it was a great film. It was recognized and a success.
‘Zone of Interest’, winner of the Grand Prix and Soundtrack Awards at the Cannes Film Festival, is a true story about Rudolf Höss, the director of the Auschwitz concentration camp during Nazi Germany.
Meanwhile, director Celine Song’s ‘Fast Lives’, which has been nominated for several major awards, including the Golden Globe, was also nominated in three categories. Actor Yoo Tae-oh, who played the role of Jeong Hae-seong, became the first Korean actor to be nominated for the Best Actor Award, and attention is being paid to his possibility of winning the award.
The 77th BAFTA Film Awards will be held on February 18.
