(Mexico City = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jae-rim Lee = At ​​the Monterrey International Film Festival in Mexico, where Korea was invited as the guest of honor, director Noh Kyung-moo’s ‘Pregnancy with No Reason to Not Do It’ won the grand prize in the international short film category.

According to the Monterrey International Film Festival Secretariat and the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico on the 5th (local time), this 30-minute short (animation), which deals with the subject of ‘male pregnancy’ surrounding a couple who has been married for 10 years, was selected after competing with 10 other works. It was selected as the grand prize work.

In his acceptance speech, Director Noh said, “I thought it was a propaganda film that publicized Korea’s low birth rate, and I am thrilled to receive the award. I think the Mexican audience understood the (Korean) comedy elements and my film well.”

At this film festival, which started on the 28th of last month and closed the day before, various events were held to promote Korean films to Mexico and Latin America, including director Lim Soon-rye receiving the Achievement Award.

Korea, the main guest country of the film festival, held two industry events (where topics covering the entire film industry, including production, distribution, and post-production) were held, as well as 10 conversations with directors.

‘Exploring women’s stories from the director’s perspective’ (participating with directors Ju-ri Jeong, Ga-eun Yoon, and Sae-in Kim), ‘How to write and direct a comedy genre’ (participating with director Yu-jeong Jang), Director Soon-rye Lim’s master class ‘Following director Soon-rye Lim’s gaze’ The Korean Cultural Center in Mexico reported that the performance received a great response from the audience.
