[TV Report = Reporter Lee Ye-eun] Director Hayao Miyazaki has already reversed his retirement five times.

After completing the 1997 animation film ‘Mononoke Hime’, director Hayao Miyazaki declared at a reception, “This will be my last work.”However, he returned in 2001 with ‘Spirited Away’ and mentioned his second retirement at a press conference, saying, “It is no longer possible to produce full-length animated films.”

Hayao Miyazaki then became a master of animation by releasing ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ in 2003 and ‘Ponyo on the Cliff’ in 2008.

After finishing ‘Ponyo on the Cliff’, he said, “Because I lack stamina, this will be my last feature film,”but he soon returned with ‘The Wind Rises’ in 2013.

Hayao Miyazaki, who decided that ‘The Wind Rises’ was his retirement work, returned 10 years later in 2023 with ‘How Will You Live?’

‘You, How Shall We Live’, which was released in Japan last July, was known as director Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement film. Even Studio Ghibli announced his retirement this time, so even fans believed that this was truly his last work.

However, Hayao Miyazaki withdrew his retirement pledge again not long after ‘How Will You Live?’ was released.

As a result, people around him are shaking their heads at Hayao Miyazaki’s capriciousness.

Toshio Suzuki, the president of Studio Ghibli, said in an interview with the magazine ‘Gose’ on the 9th (local time), “I think Hayao Miyazaki will continue to make movies until he dies, let alone retire. The audience does not want a generational change in Ghibli. “He joked.

Meanwhile, Junichi Nishioka, director of Studio Ghibli, said in an interview with the media outlet CBC, “Others say ‘How Do You Guys Live?’ may be the last film, but Hayao Miyazaki doesn’t think so at all,”he said. “I’m working on an idea for a movie,” he said.

He then shared the current status of director Hayao Miyazaki, saying, “He comes to the office every day and works. He continues to work as he has always done.”

Meanwhile, ‘How Will You Live’ is garnering explosive interest with the recent release of its first official trailer. This work, which was released in Japan last July and was a box office success, is scheduled to be released in North America on December 8th. The domestic release date has not been specifically revealed yet.
