Heo Jun-ho, “Kim Yun-seok’s fan, I became a better person after filming ‘Noryang’” [Interview]

Actor Heo Jun-ho exudes a unique aura in the movie ‘Noryang: Sea of ​​Death’ (directed by Kim Han-min). In the play, he plays Deung Ja-ryong, the vice-captain of the Ming Dynasty navy, and helps Admiral Yi Sun-sin (Kim Yun-seok) in the Battle of Myeongnyang.

“I am a fan of Kim Yun-seok. He’s an actor I really like. Then, while filming ‘Noryang: Sea of ​​Death’, we ate breakfast, lunch, and dinner together for four months, and I even came to like the human being, Kim Yun-seok. He was comfortable and nice. He was also personally worried. Following Choi Min-sik and Park Hae-il’s Yi Sun-sin, I also hoped that Kim Yun-seok would do better.”

In a recent interview with Sports Kyunghyang, Heo Jun-ho shared his thoughts on meeting the audience with ‘Noryang: Sea of ​​Death’ and He spoke confidently about his own acting philosophy.

■”The Chinese lines were difficult, so I had no choice but to memorize them”

He had to act 100% in Chinese for his character in the play. It was not an easy task, he recalled.

“I had no choice but to just memorize the lines. He ran and memorized it again. Chinese teachers were on site and would correct me if I made a mistake, so that was the only thing I could trust. I had to memorize not only my lines but also the other person’s lines. Only then can you know where the other person’s lines end and react. It was really difficult.”

I was very close with Jeong Jae-young, who played the Ming Dynasty navy with me, so the work was even easier.

“I worked on several works with Jeong Jae-young. It was nice to meet you again. He has done about 4 episodes since ‘Silmido’, and now he is a younger brother who is easy to just watch. Recently, I met him again at the MBC Drama Awards, and he immediately came to me and said, ‘Hyung~’. He is just like ‘my little brother.’”

It was her first time working with Baek Yun-sik, but she confessed that she melted when he said, ‘Junho.’

” Although I only saw it at the site for one day, I got the feeling that it was a sturdy folding screen. It was such a good feeling that I wanted to become friends. “At the preview, he called me ‘Junho’ for the first time and let me go, and I could tell right away that this is what a reliable senior is like.”

■”If you’re an actor, shouldn’t you be like white drawing paper?”

He has been quietly making his way as an actor since his debut with ‘Blue Blue Sketch’ in 1986. He said that even though he has been acting for a long time, he still strives for his own direction.

“I think an actor should be like a white drawing paper. He’s trying to do that. As an actor, your color comes from the work created by the director or writer. That’s why I don’t even cut my hair. I don’t know what other characters will come in after the work is over, so I just nurture them. Only then will you be ready to portray any character.”

I also try not to be too particular about the criteria for selecting works.

“Three years ago, I was called an ‘old man’. I admitted it. So, when my agency proposes a project, I ask the young people around me. Is this work any good? Even if I don’t see it, I may appear if my friends say it’s okay. I am now at an age where my senses are inevitably lacking. Looking at the way I look at my work or my daily actions, I can clearly acknowledge that I am an old-fashioned person, so I try not to be stubborn anymore.”

However, my belief is that ‘an actor should be like white paper.’ He emphasized that he tries not to be shaken.

“Because if someone adds a color, it has to change accordingly. Only then can it be incorporated into the work. “I want to insist on this much.”
