[My Daily = Reporter Kwak Myeong-dong] There are predictions that world-famous top star Tom Cruise (60) will leave the franchise after ‘Mission: Impossible 8′.

Cruise recently signed an agreement with Warner Bros. to develop original films and franchises. This is his strategy to secure a new base. The company plans to soon open an office at the Warner Bros. Discovery site in Burbank.

The problem is the relationship with Paramount. He created the ‘Top Gun’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’ series with Paramount. However, there was conflict over the production and release of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ and ‘Mission Impossible 7′.

According to MovieWeb on the 18th (local time), Cruise had a conflict with Paramount over streaming ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ during the coronavirus pandemic. He spoke out against streaming services at the 2022 Cannes International Film Festival, saying, “I make movies for the screen.”

In the end, Tom Crew won, and the film was praised for saving Hollywood and grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide.

‘Mission Impossible 7′ was the problem. Production costs have soared during the pandemic. Above all, the box office performance was not very good. It grossed $566 million worldwide, which is clearly short of its budget of $300 million, including marketing costs.

An official said, “Paramount and Cruise had a conflict over the budget for ‘Mission: Impossible’ films 7 and 8.” To make matters worse, additional production costs are needed due to the strike by the Writers and Actors Guild of America.

In the end, the original release date of ‘Mission Impossible 8’ was June 2024, but it was postponed by almost a year to May 2025.

Attention is being paid to whether Tom Cruise will leave the franchise after the eighth film, or whether he will remain as Ethan Hunt through a dramatic reconciliation.
