‘Mr. Park’ Director “Lee Se-young “We are comfortable like family.” [interview]

[OSEN = Reporter Yeon Hwi-seon] The director of ‘Park’s Contract Marriage’ expressed his feelings about watching the dating rumors between lead actors Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk unfold closely.

MBC PD Park Sang-hoon conducted an interview at a cafe in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 19th. At this event, he spoke with domestic reporters as the director of the recently concluded MBC drama ‘Yeolnyeo Park’s Contract Marriage’.

‘Yeolnyeo Park’s Contract Marriage (abbreviated as Yeolnyeo Park)’ is a work adapted into a drama based on a webtoon of the same name. It depicts the golden contract marriage story of Park Yeon-woo (played by Lee Se-young), a 19th-century Confucian girl who went beyond death and arrived in Korea in 2023, and Kang Tae-ha (played by Bae In-hyuk), an emotionless king of the 21st century. It ended with episode 12 (the final episode) on the 6th and enjoyed popularity, recording a peak viewership rating of 9.6% (episode 6, Nielsen Korea nationwide standard).

Is it because of the favorable reviews and popularity? Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk, the male and female leads of ‘Mr. Park’, were embroiled in dating rumors. The moment Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk were caught on camera after being nominated for the Best Couple Award at the ‘2023 MBC Drama Awards’, the scene of Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk holding hands together and clasping their hands was the aftermath that drew a heated response. However, the dating rumors between the two were not true. Bae In-hyuk also responded indifferently to this in an interview with OSEN by saying, “It was funny.”

Regarding this, PD Park Sang-hoon said, “I was also sitting and watching the awards ceremony and was surprised. It seems that the two people got along well and got along comfortably. Personally, I think it is an unknown luck. “I enjoyed it,” he said with a smile.

He also said, “Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk showed better chemistry than expected. I thought about it from the beginning and put a lot of thought into starting with a combination that I thought would suit the two of us. I took the photo thinking that the facial features, overall atmosphere, and tone of the dialogue would match. However, I was worried because I didn’t know what would happen on site. On set, the two people talked as if they were family members and came up with many ideas that had synergistic effects. “I think that was my blessing and the viewers’ blessing,” he said emphatically.

In addition, PD Park Sang-hoon said, “If the actors have good chemistry on set, there are times when I, like the viewers, think, “Do they have a good feeling?”, but I couldn’t ask because it was a personal matter. Still, it’s nice to see them getting along well. ‘Mr. Park’ The atmosphere at the filming location was very good. It was like family. It seemed difficult to get out of there.
