[My Daily = Reporter Kwak Myeong-dong] Production of a new version of the ‘Jason Bourne’ series, which is considered a masterpiece of spy thriller, is being promoted.

Deadline reported on the 20th (local time), “Universal is developing a new film about super spy Jason Bourne, and Edward Berger, director of the Netflix film ‘All Is All Happened on the Western Front,’ is in talks to direct.”

The new film is expected to be the latest in a blockbuster franchise that has released a total of five films (four of them starring Matt Damon) and has grossed more than $1.6 billion (about 2.0592 trillion won).

The source said, “It is still in the early stages of development,” and “The script is not complete and the writer has not been selected.”

It has not been decided whether to bring back the original actors or do a completely new reboot.

Matt Damon gave impressive performances in ‘The Bourne Identity’, ‘The Bourne Supremacy’, and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’. Jeremy Renner, who starred in ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ suffered a dehumidifier accident last January and will likely have a difficult time returning to the role of Jason Bourne. Variety reported, “Matt Damon is more likely to participate.”

Director Berger swept a total of four Academy trophies, including the Best International Feature Award, for ‘All Is Wrong on the Western Front’.

Attention is being paid to whether a new version of the ‘Jason Bourne’ series loved by movie fans will be released.
