At the press conference for the 28th Busan International Film Festival’s special program ‘Korean American Special Exhibition: Korean Diaspora’ held at the KNN Tower in Centumseo-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan on the 6th, Steven Yeun said about his impressions of visiting Korea, “It’s only been two days since I came, so I didn’t have a chance to meet fans. “There was no such thing,” he said, but added, “I feel like the hospitality so far has truly extended from heart to heart.”

He continued, “It’s not unfamiliar at all and I feel like I’m at home. I felt connected to all of us who live in a global reality, and it was a natural feeling to be able to talk to anyone.”He said again, “Thank you for the warm welcome.”

Steven Yeun said about the Korean Diaspora program, “It is an honor to be invited in this situation. What I feel these days is that differences are acknowledged, understood, and empathized.”He continued, “It felt special that everyone was willing to listen to different worlds and situations, and that I could now empathize with these things.”

He also confessed about the boom in Korean content, “It’s so great, and as a person living in the diaspora, it’s comforting.” He said, “I watched ‘Physical: 100’ on Netflix, and I was able to sympathize with it because the images and people were similar. It felt like we were appealing to Western people as well, and it felt like we were reorganizing how we should show ourselves. Our work also felt like this. “I hope you feel that deep comfort and connection, and that you can empathize with us wherever you are,” he added.

Meanwhile, this year’s Busan International Film Festival prepared a special program, ‘Korean American Special Exhibition: Korean Diaspora’. Director Lee Isaac Chung of ‘Minari’ (2020), which gave actress Yuh-jeong Youn the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 2021 Academy Awards, and Steven Yeun, another lead actor of ‘Minari’, Justin Jeon of ‘Pachinko’ (2022), director Kogonada, ‘Search’ (2018) Jonjo attended.
