“Take a look when you’re dating”… ‘Single in Seoul’ Lee Dong-wook, Romance Craftsman also fell in love (Comprehensive) [Interview]

Lee Dong-wook’s new work ‘Single in Seoul’ (directed by Park Beom-soo, provided and distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by DCG Plus and Myung Film) is about the power influencer Young-ho (played by Lee Dong-wook), who likes to be alone, and Hyun-jin (played by Lim Soo-jeong), the editor-in-chief of a publishing company who hates being alone. A well-made, realistic, relatable romance depicting the story that unfolds while writing a book about single life. He played Park Young-ho, a popular essay lecturer in his early 40s.

On this day, Lee Dong-wook said, “The number of movies in the romance genre being produced is decreasing, and I hope that we, too, will be successful by drawing on the energy of the successful ‘30 Days.’ “What I hope for now is the box office success of ‘Single in Seoul,’” he said, adding, “The season in the movie is similar to the present, and because it contains stories about how we live, there are many elements we can relate to.”

While he played fantasy characters such as imaginary characters Goblin and Gumiho in the drama series ‘Goblin’ (2016) and ‘Tale of the Nine-Tailed Fox’ (2020-2023), in this movie, he attempted to form a consensus by taking on the role of a non-romantic person who would be seen in real life.

Lee Dong-wook, who plays Yeong-ho, who likes solos, confessed that Lim Soo-jung played the role of Hyun-jin and was influenced in his decision to appear. “Lim Soo-jung actually has a cute side. “But when it comes to filming, she is a veteran,” she said, adding, “It’s different from the way I act. He had more details than me. “There was a point where I looked back and it made me think again,” he said, pointing out the good parts while working together.

“I thought that not only me but also the actors acting with Lim Soo-jung would feel comfortable. (To the other actor) She didn’t often feel that way, but she was dependable and comfortable while acting. We had a lot of conversations with her before filming almost all of her scenes. She filmed one scene, and even in subsequent scenes, she talked until the end. What is important is that the director also reflected our opinions with an open mind. It doesn’t always happen as the actors say, but the director opened it up. “It was a tight script to begin with, so I just followed the script well.”

He said, “I was excited because I felt refreshed when I filmed the scene where I was holding hands and running (with actress Lim Soo-jung). I remember that sequence because it was a very lovely scene. “The staff had a lot of fun while filming,” he said. “Particularly, it was intentional to give excitement to those watching through the look in their eyes. Our movie doesn’t have any special devices in it. This is a movie about empathy and laughter. He added, “I think you’ll laugh a lot while watching because laughter comes first when people sympathize.”

He said he especially liked the ending, saying, “I like it because it’s realistic. How many times can sparks fly between a man and a woman when they meet? (Laughs) A man and a woman can meet and argue while organizing their thoughts. He was satisfied with the finished version, saying, “The current ending is the most appropriate.”

Regarding the advantages of romance films, “First of all, they are easy to watch. Compared to other genres, there is no need to worry. “I also think that the advantage of romance is that it can be viewed comfortably by many generations,” he said, predicting that there will be emotions felt and learned through romance.

Lee Dong-wook, like his character Young-ho in the play, is also solo. I’m thinking of getting married, but I don’t want to do it right now. “When you ask me, ‘Can you faithfully fulfill your responsibilities as a member of a family?’, I am not yet a mature person. “Of course, I want to get married, but I’m not thinking about it right now.”

At the same time, about his relationship, he said, “I don’t treat people warmly and affectionately from the beginning (of dating or dating). “Like Youngho, he takes care of me as if he were indifferent,” he said. “I think it’s important to have a good laugh code with the other person when dating. “It’s because it was fun to date someone with whom I have a good laugh and communicate well,” he explained.

Lee Dong-wook will be filming ‘Excuse Go’ on the 25th. “I decided to appear because I felt comfortable doing it when someone I knew did it. I went to ‘Excuse Go’ because Yoo Jae-seok told me to come out. But I don’t go to everyone just because I call them. (Laughs) There are many senior and junior comedians I’m close with, and I respect them. “I admire how they think and say things like that,” he said, adding that he felt little pressure about appearing on entertainment programs.

However, Lee Dong-wook said, “I have no intention of running my own YouTube channel. “I introduce myself as a YouTuber rather than an actor, but even if I filmed it for my channel, I don’t think anyone would watch it,” he said.

‘Single in Seoul’, the return of romance master Lee Dong-wook, will be released in theaters on November 29.
