Although ‘The Real Man Appears’ had a happy ending, it failed to make anyone laugh in terms of viewership ratings. It exited without even exceeding 25%, or even its previous highest viewership rating of 23.9%.

According to Nielsen Korea, a viewership rating research company, on the 11th, the viewership rating for the last episode of KBS2’s weekend drama ‘The Truth Has Appeared!’ (written by Jo Jeong-joo, directed by Han Jun-seo), which aired the previous day, recorded 22.9% (hereinafter referred to nationwide).

On this day’s broadcast, Gong Tae-kyung (Ahn Jae-hyeon) and Oh Yeon-du (Baek Jin-hee) were shown living with their families. Also, the two people got married amidst everyone’s congratulations, completing a happy ending.

Jang Se-jin (Cha Joo-young) left for the United States after being seen off by her family, and Oh Yeon-du returned to work as an instructor. Kim Jun-ha (Jeong Eui-je) returned to Korea after a year and gave Oh Yeon-du a consent form to adopt his biological child. The story ended with Oh Yeon-du and Gong Tae-kyung adopting Haneul.

‘The Real Thing Appears’ is a story about a fake contract romance between a single mother and an unmarried man, and promised to capture the ups and downs of their family’s growth as they become ‘Avengers’ through pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare. Through this, real family empathy was demonstrated.

Here, director Han Jun-seo of ‘Beautiful Love, Wonderful Life’ and writer Jo Jeong-ju of ‘The Princess’ Man’ and ‘Are You Human Too’ collaborated to raise expectations. Baek Jin-hee, Ahn Jae-hyeon, Cha Joo-young, Chung Eui-je, and the child’s biological father, Kim Jun-ha, Kang Bu-ja, Cha Hwa-yeon, Kim Hye-ok, and Kim Chang-wan all worked together.

However, the repeated development of ‘the real thing has appeared’ and the secret of birth dragged on, causing disappointment in terms of development and completion. Controversy over the acting skills of actors such as Ahn Jae-hyun continued, and the drama ended without being able to steal the hearts of weekend drama viewers, known as the concrete viewing audience.

KBS’s weekend dramas, which were known as guaranteed box office hits, recently aired ‘The Present Is Beautiful’ and ‘Three Brothers Bravely’ ended without reaching 30%. ‘The Real Thing Has Appeared’ also failed to exceed 30%.

Not only that, compared to the other two works, it recorded significantly lower viewership ratings and received a disappointing report card. The highest viewership rating for ‘The Real Man Has Appeared’ was 23.9% for episode 36. It is much lower compared to the highest viewership rating of ‘The Present is Beautiful’ of 29.4% and ‘Three Brothers and Sisters Bravely’ which recorded the highest viewership rating of 28%.

Of course, we cannot ignore the trends of the times that have emerged with the emergence of various platforms such as OTT. We live in an era where even weekend dramas, which are said to have a concrete viewer base, can no longer guarantee box office success. Nevertheless, the reason why ‘The Real Thing Appeared’ did not exceed 25% viewership rating was because it failed to captivate viewers in terms of fun and completeness.

As a follow-up to ‘The Real Man Has Appeared’, ‘Hyosim’s Love, Each Life’ starring Uee, Ha-jun, and Go Joo-won will be aired on the 16th. With Yui playing the role of Hyosim, this new work purports to be a family liberation drama depicting the process of families living off of dedication and sacrifice finding their own independent lives.

Above all, attention is being drawn to the appearance of Uee, who was the main character in the KBS weekend drama ‘My One and Only’, which recorded the highest viewership rating of 49.4% in 2019. Attention is being paid to whether ‘Hyosim, Each Life’ will be able to become KBS’ relief pitcher and whether it will be able to overcome the 30% barrier.

‘Hyosim, Everyone’s Life’ will be broadcast at 8:05 pm on the 16th.
