Young people gathered together for the young people. The ‘2023 7th Korea Youth Day’ festival, the only youth-participatory festival in the country where young people are involved in all aspects from event preparation to operation, will be held at the Cultural Plaza in Yeouido Park on September 16. We met about 2,000 youth planning and promotion groups working for Youth Day, which is only one day a year. This time, we met with Won Ho-jae, head of the filming team who is leading the overall filming of ‘Korea Youth Day’, and heard his story.

Please briefly introduce yourself and your job.

△ This is Won Ho-jae, who is in charge of the photography team of the ‘2023 7th Korea Youth Day’ planning and promotion group. Last year, he served as the head of the reporters’ filming team. He wanted to handle filming more professionally, so he joined the filming crew for the 7th Korea Youth Day. As the name suggests, the photography team is an organization that records beautiful moments at Youth Day events through filming. We are in charge of the overall work from planning the filming to carrying out the filming. The head of the filming team is responsible for training members appropriate for the filming situation, assigning tasks, and distributing tasks that come into the filming team.

Do you have the necessary capabilities to join the filming team?

△ The filming team is an organization made up of people with diverse personalities and perspectives. Photos and videos contain the photographer’s personality and perspective, and each shot is different and special. There are two competencies required for smooth work in the filming team. The first is to have the perspective to capture the moment well. The reason the first perspective is necessary is because photography is about capturing beautiful moments in common surroundings. The second is to understand the commander’s purpose of filming. The second reason why understanding is necessary is that if each photographer shoots with a different mindset, the footage does not all match and feels arbitrary, so it is necessary to have a good understanding of the commander’s purpose.

Is there a shoot you are most looking forward to?

△ This year, we plan to film the event through aerial photography by directly operating a drone, so we are looking forward to filming the flash mob and cheerleading conducted by Dyne. I’m really looking forward to other shoots, but the ones I’m most looking forward to are the two events mentioned above.

What do you want to convey through your photos to those who cannot come to the Youth Day event?

△ I want to show others the charm of showing off and enjoying the beauty of the greenest period of one’s life. By filming people enjoying the most beautiful moments in their lives, I want to create beautiful memories for those involved and make others who see the footage feel the beauty of youth.

What is a young man?

△ It is the time when you first set foot in the world. Through new experiences, we achieve not only physical maturity but also mental maturity. I think this is the time to create the most beautiful moments of your life that you will remember for the rest of your life.
