There is one sister. Due to her parents’ divorce, she was raised separately by her mother and father. However, due to the difference in her economic environment, her older sister grew up wealthy and peaceful, while her younger brother left a poisonous legacy after an ordeal. Such sisters eventually meet as husband-in-law.

KBS2’s daily drama once again brings bloodshed to the small screen with an unconventional setting. ‘Without Blood and Tears’, which will be newly broadcast from the 22nd, deals with the strange relationship between sisters who meet through a father-in-law relationship. What is trying to give legitimacy to this strange narrative is the ‘Womance’ of actors Lee So-yeon and Ha Yeon-ju.

Lee So-yeon and Ha Yeon-ju held an online live broadcast on the morning of the 22nd in ‘Fido’. I attended the production presentation of ‘Without Tears’. Lee So-yeon appears in a KBS2 daily drama two years and six months after ‘Miss Monte Cristo’, and Ha Yeon-joo is her second KBS2 daily drama appearance.

Lee So-yeon and Ha Yeon-joo play the roles of sisters Lee Hye-won and Lee Hye-ji, respectively. Lee Hye-won is a team leader at an arts foundation and promises to marry Yoon Ji-chang (Jang Se-hyun), the head of the strategic planning team at a large corporation. Coincidentally, Ji-chang’s father, Yoon I-cheol (Jeong Chan), CEO of YJ Group, remarries Bae Do-eun, the head of a welfare foundation. The setup is that this Bae Do-eun was actually Lee Hye-ji, and she is Lee Hye-won’s younger sister. In short, the younger sister, who was separated from her when she was young, appears as her mother-in-law.

Director Kim Shin-il, who directed the film, explained the cause of this strange narrative with the high divorce rate in Korea. He said, “I saw statistics showing that Korea’s divorce rate is 3rd in the world and 1st in Asia. In reality, there are many situations where divorce occurs for economic reasons, and it is thought of as a common ‘emotional event’ in our society. For that reason, I hope that many viewers will empathize with it,” he said.

Attention is also drawn to the chemistry between Lee So-yeon and Ha Yeon-joo, who are at the center of the play. The two meet as sisters, then become enemies, and at the end of the play, their relationship becomes unpredictable as to what outcome it will have. In the pre-released trailer, the two people who discovered each other’s identities were caught preparing for bloody revenge, raising tension.

Lee So-yeon, who plays the role of Lee Hye-won, recalled her past work ‘Miss Monte Cristo’ and said, “At that time, the character had a strong venom, but this time, she is an intelligent, broad-minded and kind-hearted woman.” “It may seem like an intense story, but she has a sense of humor.” There are characters and elements that allow you to feel the love of family. “There are many parts that viewers will be comfortable watching,” he emphasized.

Ha Yeon-joo also said about this work, which is her return after getting married in 2021, “It is unfamiliar as it has been a long time, but it shows a deeper and more diverse side than in the past. “I’m trying to do it,” he said. She then asked for attention, saying, “I want to present a villain who is vicious but cute, with reason and justification.”

The story is strange, but in the end, it is the actors’ acting that fills the gap in perception. Wow, it’s a solid script. ‘Without Blood and Tears’, which has once again set out to capture the attention of viewers with an unconventional setting, will be broadcast every Monday to Friday at 7:50 PM on KBS2 from the 22nd as a follow-up to ‘Elegant Empire’.< a i=3>Reporter Ha Kyung-heon azimae@kyunghyang.com
