‘Argyle’ main actors, “I respect Korean films with a spirit of challenge”

“It is meaningful and honorable that our first destination is Korea. “As this is a film that will surprise you beyond your expectations, we ask you to come to the theater in the first week of its release.”

Actor Henry Cavill, who played the lead role in the movie ‘Argyle,’ made this statement at a press conference held in Korea at the Four Seasons Hotel in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 18th.

The movie is an action blockbuster about writer Ellie (Bryce Dallas Howard), who becomes a target of spies around the world when the contents of a spy novel she wrote become reality, and searches for legendary agent Argyle (Henry Cavill) to uncover a hidden conspiracy. This new film from director Matthew Vaughn, who created the ‘Kingsman’ series, will be released on the 7th of next month.

Henry Cavill visited Korea for the second time in six years after ‘Mission: Impossible: Fallout’ in 2018. Cavill is familiar to domestic audiences as he played the role of Superman in the DC Comics ‘Justice League’ series.

Cavill said, “I’m happy to be back in Korea. “It’s a pity that I can’t tour beautiful places because of the promotional schedule,” he said. “Argyle is a character who adds humor to the ideal spy. Coach Vaughn is such an incredible person that I had no hesitation in completely entrusting myself to him. “The process of making movies was fun,” he said.

Bryce Dallas Howard, well-known for her role as Claire Dearing in the ‘Jurassic World’ series, said, “I always wanted to come to Korea. “When he arrived at the airport and saw the welcoming fans, he thought it was right to make Korea the first stop of the tour,” he said.

He also said, “The reason I respect Korean film producers and directors is because they are armed with a spirit of challenge and create films that have never been seen before,” adding, “‘Argyle’ is suitable for Korea in that it is a brave and imaginative film. “I am confident that Korean audiences will be able to have an exciting experience.”

Sam Rockwell, who played the role of Aiden, a middle-aged spy who helps Ellie in the real world, expressed his impressions of his visit to Korea, saying, “As a person who works in movies and a huge fan of Korean movies, I was excited about this journey.” Regarding working with director Vaughn, he said, “After watching ‘Kingsman,’ I was really curious about what kind of person Director Vaughn was, and I pursued him because I wanted to meet him. “He is a bold and passionate person,” he said.

Director Bon, who is known to have actively promoted this visit to Korea, was unable to join due to health reasons. Director Bon said in his handwritten letter, “I have been advised by my doctor not to travel. “I am very disappointed that I will not be able to go to Korea,” he said. “I will be here cheering on the Korean team competing in the Asian Cup.”

Following the ‘Kingsman’ series, director Bon directed comical and unique action with a B-grade sensibility in ‘Argyle’. Ellie and Aiden’s dancing-like action sequence, Ellie’s ‘solo action’ reminiscent of a figure skating stage, and train action capture the audience’s attention. Regarding the action acting, Howard said, “It was something I had never experienced before,” and added, “Along with the choreography and music, a scene like a musical was completed.”

Alfie, the main character Ellie’s pet cat and a source of laughter in the film, is actually a cat raised by director Vaughn’s wife, model Claudia Schiffer. John Cena from the ‘Fast and Furious’ series, Samuel L. Jackson, who is familiar to domestic audiences through the Marvel series, and Dua Lipa, who began her acting career as an actor last year with ‘Barbie,’ appeared in supporting roles.
