From the movie ‘Train to Busan’ that started the K-zombie craze around the world, to the Netflix series ‘Hell’, which tells a shocking story, to the Netflix film ‘Jeong-i’, which imagines the near future. ; also created ‘telekinesis’ ‘Peninsula’ Since it was a project by director Yeon Sang-ho, who mainly created surreal and apocalyptic stories such as <#39;this time too?>, I had expectations.

When I opened the ‘Seonsan’ with the occult packaging, there was an unexpected result. First of all, it was not a story at all about apocalypse, zombies, or other surreal phenomena. There were some occult elements, but this was really just bait. It was a story about a person’s life filled with shocking twists and thoughts and heartbreaking love for his family.

Director Yeon Sang-ho’s work like this? It was surprising and at the same time director Yeon Sang-ho and ‘Train to Busan’ for a long time. ‘Telekinesis’ It was a story that made me admire the power of director Min Heung-nam, who worked as an assistant director on ‘Peninsula’ and was directing for the first time.

One of the strengths of ‘Seonsan’ is that it is possible to binge-watch at once as it is a short series of 6 episodes. The angles and speed allow you to look calmly at the scenes, scenes full of life, and acting based on reality. Combined with the bluish visual beauty, it also gives a feeling of freshness. For some, it may be forcing them to bring up secrets they don’t want to think about or keep hidden because it’s a boring family story, but by depicting the process as calmly as possible, the viewer’s mind becomes more dynamic.

Kim Hyun-joo is the main character, but to be honest, Park Hee-soon and Park Byeong-eun’s narrative is a little more attractive than Kim Hyun-ju’s narrative, and their acting chemistry and story are so good that you may remember ‘Seonsan’ as their story. I did not expect that the two male actors would provide tension and curiosity that would keep me anxious until the end about how two characters who have experienced a huge event can stay in the same place for a long time and what their true feelings are for each other. However, after this work, Park Byeong-eun played such a good role and acted so well that he had to be considered a middle-aged idol. Of course, the stories of the people around Kim Hyun-joo, along with the twist in the second half, provide a great psychological shock, so it does a good job of guiding the viewer’s attention. Who could say that Kim Hyun-joo is disappointed in her acting? Nevertheless, the story of Park Hee-soon and Park Byeong-eun is so good that I want to talk about it separately at length.

Kim Hyun-joo and Park Hee-soon worked together as a married couple in the previous drama ‘Trolley’, but their characters and narrative are so different that it doesn’t bother me at all that they are working on a sequel. In addition, Kim Hyun-joo and Ryu Kyung-soo appeared together in director Yeon Sang-ho’s ‘Jeong-i’, but this time Ryu Kyung-soo has undergone such an unconventional transformation that it is difficult to recognize him as Ryu Kyung-soo in his first appearance.

People who were expecting a genre film and are familiar with all of director Yeon Sang-ho’s previous works may find this work unfamiliar or disappointing, but personally, the regret is, “Why didn’t they show a work like this a long time ago?”There was so much new fun to be had. Director Yeon Sang-ho seems like a clever creator who touches on the most Korean subject matter and the most intimate family life.

Synopsis: One day, Yoon Seo-ha, who was working as a part-time lecturer at a university and looking forward to being appointed as a professor, hears the news of the death of her uncle, whose existence she barely knew. Although he is not happy with the news from his uncle, who reminds him of his mother and the father who abandoned him, he also learns that he is the only heir to his family’s inheritance. Surprisingly enough, Seo-ha’s half-brother Kim Yeong-ho bursts into the funeral hall and creates chaos, saying that he too should inherit the deceased. Memories of her father’s son, who left her home due to her affair, and her servant, whom she wanted to forget along with her prenatal birth, come rushing in, and even her ominous incidents occur one after another, and her uncontrollable anxiety surrounds her. Meanwhile, Detective Choi Seong-jun, who was keenly aware of the murder case that occurred in the village, senses that the strange attitude of the village people indicates that the death was not a simple accident, and delves into the case, but the clue to the solution is not easily found. Detective Chief Park Sang-min, who does not like Seong-jun, focuses his investigation on Seo-ha and Yeong-ho, who are involved in the conflict of interest in the inheritance, excluding Seong-jun, but he also just circles around the place. Meanwhile, another murder case occurs and the town is shaken once again…

The Netflix series ‘Seonsan’, which depicts the story of a series of ominous events occurring as a person inherits the land left behind after the death of his uncle, whom he had forgotten even existed, and related secrets being revealed, can be seen on Netflix.
