[Sports Chosun.com Reporter Jeong An-ji] Director Bong Joon-ho and actor Song Kang-ho visited the late actor Byun Hee-bong’s funeral to pay their respects.

On the afternoon of the 18th, the late Byun Hee-bong’s funeral was set up in room 17 of the funeral hall of Samsung Seoul Hospital located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

Immediately after the mortuary was set up, film industry figures, including director Bong Joon-ho and Song Kang-ho, visited the deceased’s mortuary to pay their respects.

Director Bong Joon-ho formed a special relationship with the deceased, starting with his directorial work ‘The Dog of Flanders’, then working with the deceased on ‘Memories of Murder’, ‘Monster’, and ‘Okja’. Director Bong Joon-ho mourned the sudden news and visited the funeral home to commemorate the deceased.

In addition, Song Kang-ho, who co-starred in ‘Memories of Murder’ and ‘Monster’, also visited the funeral to pay his respects. Song Kang-ho heard the sad news during an interview about the movie ‘Cobweb’ held on the same day, and said, “I heard the news a little while ago and was distraught. We didn’t see each other often, but I tried to contact you.”He added, “I heard from director Bong Joon-ho that he was fighting the disease from time to time. It’s so sad. “He also expressed his condolences.

In addition, wreaths sent by film industry figures expressing condolences were placed at the deceased’s funeral. Wreaths with the names of Park Hae-il and Bae Doo-na, who acted together in ‘The Host’, were placed side by side, and actors Jeon Do-yeon, Jeong Bo-seok, and directors Kang Woo-seok and Park Shin-woo also sent wreaths.

Meanwhile, according to the bereaved family, the deceased passed away on the morning of the 18th due to pancreatic cancer. He died at the age of 81. The deceased was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer ahead of his appearance in the drama ‘Mr. Sunshine’ in 2017. After struggling with the disease, he was declared completely cured, but it is reported that it recently recurred and he continued to fight the disease again.

The deceased’s funeral will be at 12:30 pm on the 20th, and the burial site will be Seoul Memorial Park.
