Regarding the case of the late actor Lee Sun-gyun, who died while being investigated for drug use, the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency has launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the leak of investigative information. In addition, it is reported that the police investigation related to the incident began with a tip from a blackmailer, a woman in her 20s and a former actress, rather than the manager of an entertainment establishment.

According to the police on the 19th, the Gyeonggi Southern Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Team was assigned the Lee Seon-gyun case and began the investigation.

On the 15th, the Incheon Police Agency, which was in charge of the Lee Seon-gyun case, requested an investigation from the Gyeonggi Nambu Office, a nearby local police agency, to confirm and investigate the suspicion that investigative information was leaked to some media outlets. It was passed down. This is for the fairness of the investigation.

In addition, it was confirmed that the informant related to the Lee Sun-kyun incident was Ms. A, a woman in her 20s and former actor who extorted 50 million won by threatening Lee Sun-kyun. It was originally known that the first informant was the ex-boyfriend of an employee at an entertainment establishment.

According to the legal community, the police began an internal investigation on September 10 last year after receiving information from the ex-boyfriend of an employee at an entertainment establishment that “Mr. B, the manager of the establishment, injected methamphetamine to his ex-girlfriend.” . At the time, the police and the informant had no idea about the suspicions related to Lee Sun-kyun, but a month later, on October 10th, they received a tip from Mr. A about Lee Sun-kyun’s drug suspicions. Person A provided Ms. B’s hair as evidence of her drug use and also reported suspicions of Lee Seon-kyun’s drug use. Mr. A and Mr. B lived in the same apartment and were close friends for a long time, but when their relationship soured, they reported it to the police.

The funeral of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun was set up at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital on the 27th. He died at the age of 48. Since last October, Seon-kyun Lee has been investigated by the police three times on charges of marijuana and psychotropic drugs under the Narcotics Control Act. He was found dead in a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 27th, four days after his third police appearance on the 23rd. His funeral was held on the 29th, and his burial place is Seonyeong, Buan-gun, Jeollanam-do. Photo = Photo Joint Reporting Group /2023.12.27/

The claim that Lee Sun-gyun’s allegations were leaked during the internal investigation stage also turned out to be untrue. Mr. B was arrested by the police on October 18th of last year, and Lee Seon-gyun was already criminally booked on October 14th on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The first report regarding Lee Sun-kyun came out on October 23rd. The police explained, “At the time of the first report, we were unable to properly respond to the media (due to the issue of publicizing the facts of the suspect).”

Meanwhile, Lee Seon-gyun was booked by the police and investigated since October last year on charges of drug use, but was found dead in a car parked in a parking lot in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul on the 27th of last month.

On the 15th, the Cultural Artists’ Solidarity Association (tentative name) delivered a statement titled ‘The demands of cultural artists facing the death of the late actor Lee Sun-kyun’ to the National Police Agency, KBS, and the National Assembly. As previously announced in a statement, the Cultural Artists’ Solidarity Association requested the National Police Agency to thoroughly investigate the investigation process of investigative officials, KBS to delete articles that do not meet the purpose of reporting, and the National Assembly to enact and enact current laws to protect the human rights of cultural artists. Requested revisions, etc.
