[OSEN=Reporter Jang Woo-young] A comment made by famous American comedian Joe Koy about the movie ‘Barbie’ came under fire.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, USA on the 7th (local time).

At this awards ceremony, ‘Oppenheimer’ won five awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and Best Original Score. ‘Fast Lives’, directed by Korean-Canadian director Celine Song, was nominated in five categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Non-English Language Film, but failed to win the award.

As the awards ceremony has concluded, criticism continues that the inappropriate words and actions of stand-up comedian Joe Koy, who served as host, were rude. Jo Koy gave a talk weighing ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ and said, “‘Barbie’ is a movie made with plastic dolls with big breasts.”

The story unfolds as Barbie (Margot Robbie), who was living in ‘Barbie Land’ where she can become anything she wants, discovers a crack in the portal connecting to the real world, and sets out on an unexpected journey with Ken (Ryan Gosling) to solve it. ‘Barbie’ won two awards at the awards ceremony on this day, including the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award and the Best Original Song Award.

After Jo Koy’s remarks, the expressions of the actors captured on camera were stiff. The ‘Barbie’ cast, including Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, as well as other actors, could not hide their discomfort. Overseas viewers who watched the awards ceremony also pointed out that Jo Koy’s remarks were inappropriate, with reactions such as “This is the worst,””I understand the facial expressions of the ‘Barbie’ cast,”and “Clear misogyny.”

Joe Koy, famous as a stand-up comedian and actor, hosted the famous talk show ‘The Tonight’ with Jay Leno in 2005. He gained great popularity by recording the highest ticket sales at performances held in Honolulu, San Francisco, and San Diego in 2017, and appeared in more than 140 episodes of NBC’s famous talk show ‘Chelsea Lately.’ /elnino8919@osen.co.kr
