Teo Yoo, the first Korean to win the British Academy Award for Best Actor… nominated for ‘Fast Lives’

Teo Yoo was nominated for the Best Actor Award at the British Academy Awards for his role in the movie “Fast Lives.”

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the candidates for the British Academy Awards on January 18 (local time), and the film “PAST LIVES”(directed by Celine Song) won Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay. He was nominated for the Best Actor Award.

Yoon Yeo-jeong became the first Korean actor to win the Best Supporting Actress Award for the 2021 film ‘Minari’ (directed by Lee Isaac Chung). If Yoo Teo wins the Best Actor award, he will also become the first Korean actor to do so.

Prior to that, in 2018, director Park Chan-wook won the Best Foreign Language Film Award for the film ‘The Handmaiden’, and in 2020, director Bong Joon-ho won the Best Foreign Language Film Award and Best Original Screenplay for ‘Parasite’.

‘Fast Lives’ is a work starring Greta Lee of the Netflix TV series ‘Russian Doll’ and actor Teo Yoo, and directed by Korean-Canadian Celine Song. It tells the story of a man and a woman who met in Korea as children and reunite in New York 20 years later.

It was screened as a world premiere at the 39th Sundance Film Festival held in January last year and received favorable reviews, and was recognized for its artistic value by being invited to the competition section of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival, one of the world’s three major film festivals.

Previously, at the U.S. Golden Globes, it was nominated in five categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Non-English Language Film, and Best Actress in a Motion Picture or Drama, but failed to win an award.
